It is likely that a visit to the dentist arouses a certain amount of fear and trepidation in the minds of many. Yet it is true that a smart dental clinic environment, one whose interior is thoughtfully arranged, can act to lessen the sense of dread. The Arnau Dental Clinic in Spain’s Castellón province is a good case in point. A family practice, the clinic’s interior was designed by Castellón-based design studio Vitale to reflect a confident air, inspired by dental health tradition and know-how.

The Arnau Dental Clinic is divided into two distinct areas: one for adults and one for children. The adult space is clean and minimal, with its white backdrop, chairs and flooring warmed using wood features and winsome Raindrop pendants by LZF.

The Raindrop suspension light was designed for LZF in 2012 by Valencia-born Javier Herrero of Javier Herrero Studio, a venture whose area of specialisation is in furniture and lighting design. The Raindrop light is made up of a shade, formed using strips of wood veneer, a glow ball and a bulb. With an expressive and artistic design, the Raindrop’s form is playful and original.

Available in four sizes together with a choice of timber veneer finishes, the Raindrop is an elegant pendant that will hang with poise both singly and in a group. It is a light whose character is cosy and cheering. In choosing to use a number of Raindrop lamps at the Arnau Dental Clinic, Vitale introduced a soothing light that cleverly counterbalances the clinic’s more minimalist surroundings.

Visitors first encounter a pair of Raindrop lights at the clinic’s reception desk, their affable manner offering a warm welcome. In the waiting room area, a grouping of Raindrop lights provides an especially pleasing arrangement, one that engages the eye and conceivably distracts the mind. Raindrops are also at home in a smaller consultation space.

The calming and reassuring properties of well-designed lighting are entirely positive, particularly in environments likely to increase stress and anxiety. In choosing LZF’s Raindrop pendants for the Arnau Dental Clinic, Vitale proactively worked to create a mix of tranquility and buoyancy, achieving a heartening air for nervous patients.
