A totem is a spirit being, sacred object, or symbol that serves as an emblem of a group of people, such as a family, clan, lineage, or tribe. LZF’s own particular totem is AO, the New Zealand Maori God of light. Which is quite appropriate, considering we are in the business of creating divine illuminations.
We don’t think Burkhard Dammer and his friend – our own Marivi Calvo – had the Maori God in mind when they came up with their own Totem lamp for LZF. In fact, the rumour is that they had been moseying about in a Turkish spice market and emerged smelling of spices, tea and tradition. This aroma gave them the idea to create the Totem, inspired by the Ottoman Empire.
We do know one thing for sure: The Totem suspension lamp is a light fit for a deity.
It’s also a lamp fit for the most gorgeous showroom studio in Madrid. Showroom GD.
Designed by Alicia Ferran, Gaston y Daniela’s Showroom GD comprises a multidisciplinary team with more than 20 years’ experience, and led by Alicia and Lucia Ferran. The starting point for any project Showroom GD embarks upon, revolves around their clients’ taste, lifestyle, and expectations.
Each piece selected by the team must have meaning and functionality. The team only collaborates with brands imbued with a high level of quality, design and commitment.
Of course, we’re proud to say that one of these brands is LZF.
Alicia selected our Totem 3 for the Showroom GD’s living room space. Take a look at the images by Javier Lerin and we’re sure you’ll agree the Totem is absolutely worthy of worship. Its tall organic form, serves to unite natural elements of the interior (such as the wooden corner objet d’art, and the leafy fabric motif on the soft furnishings) with that of the verdant garden visible through the windows.
There’s no debating the fact, our Totem is a spiritual experience.
