Switzerland is known for three things: cheese, chocolate, and yodelling. And while we absolutely love chocolate and cheese, and have been even known to yodel around the factory, we certainly do not think of Thai food when we think of Switzerland.

Now 9,000 kilometres from the centre of Bangkok you can order a superb jungle curry at the Belvedere Hotel’s Nam Thai Restaurant, right there in the foothills of the Alps. The same Alps coincidentally that were alive with the sound of music.

We know this because architects Krucker Partner AG and Barmade AG requested LZF’s assistance in supplying our beautiful handmade wood lamps for their revamped restaurant design.

Having LZF on the menu was pretty special for all involved and we like to think that our Mini Mikados go some way to creating a memorable experience, as they soar like birds in flight above each dining table, helping to add a touch of flair to what is an elegant but paired back space.

The Mini Mikado was created by the very well-bearded Miguel Herranz, a man who described his work ethic as ‘regulated chaos’. We are not too sure what Miguel is imbibing to produce this so-called regulated chaos but we’re pretty sure we want some of it on tap. Perhaps he’s inspired by watching reruns of Julie Andrews’ musicals? We will never know.

What we do know is that Miguel’s Mini Mikado is one of LZF’s most sculpturally enigmatic pieces and a fitting choice for an Asian inspired restaurant interior in the heart of Switzerland.
