‘Start spreading the news…’ The opening line to that most hackneyed Sinatra classic rarely fails to conjure up nostalgia for the ‘city that never sleeps’. And with this in mind, the ‘Big Apple’ beckons, as the 29th annual International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in New York—described as ‘North America’s premier showcase for contemporary design’—draws near.
- Track down LZF at Booth 1733, where you’ll find a warm welcome and a discerning, dynamic and delightful parade of lights. Make sure that you check out the new collections, and say ‘hi’ to the always affable and smiling Elephant.
- After you’ve had your fill of the designs on show across the ICFF, explore the neighbourhood. The Javits Center is part of Hudson Yards, New York’s largest development since the Rockefeller Center. An up-and-coming locale, Hudson Yards is surrounded by some smart Manhattan hoods, including Chelsea, The Meatpacking District, The Garment District and Hell’s Kitchen.
- The now famous High Line beckons: the end of New York’s elevated urban park is adjacent to the Javits Centre on West 34th Street. Enjoy a scenic stroll along its 2.33 kilometre length.
- Once you reach Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District (the beginning of the High Line), drop by the Whitney Museum of American Art. The museum’s new building was designed by architect Renzo Piano.
- Venture beyond Manhattan and visit Williamsburg in North Brooklyn (home to the hit TV series ‘Girls’). Enjoy some hipster watching, craft beer and a good cup of artisan joe.
