Jones was overlooked by the music industry. I was “too dark and too short,” she liked to say, with characteristic candor and what might be described as an endearing orneriness.
In her life she worked as a prison guard at Rickers Island, and as an armoured car driver, however her real talent was always with her.
“I started late, and I suppose I only got a few more years. So I want to get it in while I can, before I go away from here,” she said, using a favored expression for her mortality.
She will be added to a year during which we have lost so many great musicians, at least we can console ourselves with the fact that she will have some good company up there !!
