LZF had the honour of receiving the National Innovation and Design Award 2020 from the King and Queen of Spain, and winning a 2021 NYCxDESIGN Award for Dune.

National Innovation and Design Award 2020

At LZF we are very much a creative hub. In the company’s twenty-six year journey to date, we have embraced art, design, craftsmanship, innovation, technology, and sustainability. As artisans, it is always a privilege to have our work recognised, but we remain ever humble. In October 2020, LZF was the recipient of Spain’s Premios Nacionales de Innovación y de Diseño 2020—the National Innovation and Design Awards 2020—in the ‘Companies’ category. In 2011, LZF won the Spanish National Craftsmanship Award (Premio Nacional de Artesanía), recognising the company’s dedication to artisanship. To now be given Spain’s National Innovation and Design Award is momentous (and the first time that a Spanish company has won both of these prestigious accolades).

LZF, National Innovation and Design Award 2020

Mariví and Sandro receive LZF’s award from King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain.

On 10th June 2021, LZF co-founders Mariví Calvo and Sandro Tothill travelled to Granada to receive the National Innovation and Design Award from the King and Queen of Spain, at the Palacio de Congresos de Granada. This award distinguishes those people and entities that have made innovation an essential element in the development of their professional strategy and business growth, as well as those who have contributed to increasing the prestige of Spanish design. The occasion was a proud moment for the entire LZF family.

NYCxDESIGN Award

Dune, NYCxDESIGN Award

Dune wins a 2021 NYCxDESIGN Award in the pendant fixtures category.

Here at LZF we are thrilled to have won a 2021 NYCxDESIGN Award in the pendant fixtures category for Dune. Dune is the first of three LZF lamps (alongside Estela and Eris) made using hand-blown borosilicate glass, paired with natural wood veneer. It is part of a special collaboration with Imanol Calderón Elósegui and Marta Alonso Yebra of Mayice, and the master glass-blowing artisan Eduard Garuti.

In Dune, a distinctive deformation creates a unique refraction effect.

Designing and making Dune is truly a labour of love and it’s a lamp of which LZF is incredibly proud. Each Dune lamp is distinctive—a deformation creates a unique refraction effect, ensuring every Dune lamp is like a piece of art. The NYCxDESIGN Awards are presented by Interior Design Magazine. When announcing Dune as the pendant fixtures winner, editor-in-chief Cindy Allen simply described it as ‘a gorgeous single piece of handblown glass.’ Dune is entirely crafted in Spain: the borosilicate glass is handblown at Eduard Garuti’s traditional workshop in Barcelona, while the lamp is assembled at LZF’s specially designed Glass House (a newly created space at the LZF factory in Chiva, Valencia).
