Cast your mind back to the year 1230. You are a wealthy count with a bit of a girly name and you like killing animals just for the fun of it. What do you do? Well Count Floris IV of Holland snapped up some land beside a whopping big pond and built himself a gentleman’s hunting residence. He then proceeded to decorate the walls of his home with the heads of the unfortunate beasts he had managed to assassinate. A few years later his son put on a bit of an extension and turned the whole place into a palace (as you do).
Hard to believe but this whole estate became the origin of the present day Hague in the Nederland. Indeed the old palace is still used for political events, such as the annual speech from the throne of the Dutch monarch.
What does this brief history lesson have to do with LZF? Not much, except that we like to keep our blog readers well educated. Well actually, there is a bit of a link. We’ve just ticked off The Hague in our ever burgeoning bucket list of Cities We Want To Be In.
