When Christopher Columbus bumped into the coast of Puerto Rico in 1493 and claimed he had ‘discovered’ it, around 30 to 60 thousand Taino Amerindians were already living there quite happily. Idlers around the globe should be eternally grateful to these Taino people, because they gave us that most wonderful of chill-out zones – the hammock. Can you imagine how sad a world it would be without a hammock to recline in with a well-crafted cocktail?
Unfortunately there are no hammocks at the new Mi Casa Restaurant at the El Dorado Beach Resort in Puerto Rico, but they do shake up a fairly decent cocktail, using the local rum as a base. The restaurant, part of a Ritz-Carlton Reserve – has world-acclaimed chef José Andrés wielding his magic behind the stoves, cooking up a storm of seafood and tapas.
Renowned Spanish architect Juli Capella has done a stellar job coming up with the restaurant design. And the team here at LZF were tickled pink that Juli specified several of our timber veneer products to tie the whole look together.
Most impressive is the jaw droppingly stupendous ‘Link Moebius’ that hangs over the main dining area. Comprising a horizontal version of the Link Chain designed by our own Marivi Calvo and long term collaborator Ray Power, the custom-made piece is the first and only one of its kind in the world.
LZF also supplied the Orbit wall lamps by Miguel Herranz, and an Agatha and Paisley screen by Luis Eslava.
A beautiful project and one we are very proud of.
