Lekuona is an insightful creative and art director, whose body of work is expressed with a telling passion.

In these images, the interplay between light and shadow, glass and wood, evokes a feeling of quietude. There is a reassuring sense of orderliness, of composure, and serenity. Lekuona captures the quiet beauty of everyday moments, framing curated scenes in a manner that narrates the story of a space: from a simple vase placed on a stack of periodicals to a ceramic pot filled with brushes and pencils. They are day-to-day occurrences, little things that occasion a smile or trigger a memory. They are personal touches that act as a backdrop, adding character to the setting, and offering a glimpse of the curator’s world.

Lekuona’s photogenic protagonist is the Eris table lamp. With its minimal, orb-like shape and tranquil presence, it is the ideal light in this setting. Eris pairs hand-blown borosilicate glass with natural wood veneer. Designed by Mayice and hand-blown by master artisan Eduard Garuti, Eris is undeniably elegant and poised. The perfect accent lamp, it has a soft, pleasing ambience that is suited to a range of spaces.

With Eris, Lekuona shows that creativity shines through simplicity. The images are uncluttered, each an expression of the artist’s clever eye. They exhibit a Japanese sensibility, embracing elements of nature and harmony, of wabi-sabi and beauty in imperfection. Akio Nukaga, a celebrated Japanese potter, eloquently describes beauty in imperfection. He explains: ‘rather than admiring completeness, [beauty in imperfection] is about seeking aesthetic satisfaction where an element is missing. We could even say this absence creates a space in which to insert one’s imagination.’ Applying Nukaga’s thoughtful description to Lekuona’s work, we see the images as a visual depiction of beauty in imperfection. Unfussy, they leave room for the individual’s self-expression.
